Storms move through region as flood watch continues

It remains in effect through Monday morning for six Western Pennsylvania counties.

After a day of thunderstorms and tornado warnings around the region, the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh is maintaining a flood watch until Monday morning.

The counties under the flood watch include Allegheny, Beaver, Fayette, Greene, Washington and Westmoreland.

A flash flood warning in Washington County, including Canonsburg, McMurray and Thompsonville, was in effect until 7:15 p.m. Sunday.

At 6:30 p.m., the NWS radar showed major weather systems moving past Allegheny County, but with some smaller ones approaching from Ohio.

In the late afternoon, tornado warnings were issued as a line of gusty storms moved through the region. Blairsville, Derry and Ligonier received warnings in effect until 5 p.m., as did Indiana, Pa., Vandergrift and Kittanning.

Two other tornado warnings were issued for areas west and north of Pittsburgh.

The first, for the Economy, Ambridge and Hookstown areas, expired at 3:30 p.m. The other, for parts of Beaver and Butler counties, including Fernway, Fox Run and Seven Fields, expired at 3:45 p.m.

Power outages climbed as the afternoon went on.

As of about 7 p.m., outages reported by Duquesne Light had fallen to about 6,000, down from about 11,500 earlier in day. About 3,900 were in Allegheny County and 2,000 in Beaver.

More than half of the 23,000 outages First Energy was reporting statewide were in Westmoreland County, where about 13,500 customers were out.

There were also about 1,650 in Fayette County, 1,400 in Washington County and 1,100 in Allegheny County.
