Suspect in Monessen teen’s fatal shooting taken into custody

The suspect wanted in the shooting death of his classmate turned himself in to authorities Wednesday.
Terry Newton, 16, was taken into custody on a warrant for the Nov. 29 shooting death of Amari Altomore, 16, of Monessen. His arrest was announced by the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office via its online Crimewatch platform.
Monessen police Chief Dave Yuhasz said city detectives are working with Westmoreland County detectives on the ongoing investigation. Westmoreland County sheriff deputies had been searching for him in various locations around the area, but Newton turned himself in to law enforcement.
The Westmoreland County Detective Bureau issued a warrant for Newton’s arrest Dec. 15.
