Dr. David E. Brougher – Belle Vernon

By obits

Dr. David E. Brougher, 91, of Belle Vernon, passed away peacefully on Sept. 23, 2021, in his home, with his family by his side. Born in Swissvale on July 15, 1930, Dave is the son of the late Dr. Lear (stepmother Jeanne) and Margaret Hall Brougher. After high school, “Doc” attended Lafayette College (1948-52), where he received his bachelor’s degree. He continued his education at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, graduating in 1956. Doc completed his internship in 1957 at Tripler Army Hospital, Honolulu, Hawaii; and then his residency at Magee Women’s Hospital in Gynecology and Obstetrics, 1958-61. Dr. Brougher served his country honorably in the United States Army, serving from 1961-65 as chief of obstetrics and gynecology. From 1965-67, Doc was affiliated with Magee Women’s Hospital and Columbia Hospital. He then came to Charleroi in 1967 to practice obstetrics and gynecology at Charleroi-Monessen Hospital. He was largely influential in the creation of the OBGYN department at Monongahela Valley Hospital and was the chief of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department from 1979-82. For many years, he was the unofficial team physician for the Rostraver Midget League and Belle Vernon Area High School football programs. Over Dr. Brougher’s 44-year career, he was most proud that he brought over 7,000 babies into this world. Following his retirement, Doc stayed very active in his community. A member of St. Sebastian Church, he also helped the Saint Vincent de Paul Society and did Meals on Wheels. Doc was also a member of the Charleroi Rotary Club, Mon Valley Golden Panthers and the Knights of Columbus. Dr. Brougher is survived by his loving wife, Carole (Hott) Brougher of Charleroi. Before marrying in 2005, their relationship truly began many years before that and grew into a lifetime of stories and memories. He is survived by his children, Deborah Miller of Colorado, Nancy Brougher of Illinois, Donald (Amy) Brougher of Kansas, Betsy (Michael) Monaco of Pittsburgh and Timothy (Aimee) Brougher of South Carolina; grandchildren, Meaghan (Adam) Higgins, Colleen Brougher, Christy (Paden) Cooper, Stephanie Brougher, Lindsay (Justin) Aughinbaugh and Mike (Kris) Monaco; and his great-granddaughter, Iris Higgins. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife and mother of his children, Chris Larson; two brothers, Donald and Robert Brougher; his sister, Sue Plummer; and his grandson, Thomas Scott Brougher. Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26, 2021, at SCHROCK-HOGAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES INC., 226 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 27, 2021, at St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Monongahela Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society or to a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.schrock-hogan.com.
