New Eagle: Second truck having engine trouble

New Eagle’s dump truck woes continued Tuesday night.
After spending the past month researching and debating the cost effectiveness of replacing the engine in the borough’s 2015 Ford F550, council members learned Tuesday night the borough’s 2016 Ford truck has been diagnosed with the same issues.
At Tuesday night’s council meeting, public works employee Jason Miller said the 2016 truck’s check engine light recently came on, and the truck was taken to New Eagle repair shop Eddie Volker’s Auto Body.
According to Miller, a diagnostic check of the truck’s check engine codes revealed a seal leak in the engine’s turbo, the same issue that occurred in the 2015 Ford earlier this summer.
Despite having only approximately 10,000 miles, the 2015 truck was taken to C. Harper Ford in Belle Vernon for repair to the turbo. A few days after the repairs were completed, the entire engine became inoperable and the truck has been sitting unused for weeks. The engine repair would have cost the borough $18,579.70.
After a lengthy discussion about the two trucks, council decided to delay repairing the 2015 truck and will have administrator Kim Koontz call Ford dealerships to compare parts and labor warranties on engine replacements for both trucks.
