The Monongahela Area Revitalization Corporation’s third annual Movies at the Mounds event will begin Friday, and this year’s selected features will satisfy science fiction, drama and animation fans of all ages.
The free event at Mounds Park kicks off with the 1997 blockbuster hit “Men in Black.”
On Aug. 13, the scheduled movie is the 1984 hit “The Karate Kid” and Sept. 10 will feature the 2010 animated film “Despicable Me.”
MARC volunteers will open the event to the public at 8 p.m., and all movies will begin at dusk.
The event will feature popcorn, hot dogs and soda, and attendees are asked to bring their own chairs or blankets.
MARC member Corrina Withrow chairs the event, and said last year’s event was one of the few activities residents could do amid COVID restrictions and closures.
“Attendance was good and with every movie it got better,” Withrow said. “People were grateful for somewhere to go.”
