An issue with dogs in one Elizabeth neighborhood is being addressed by borough officials.
There have been two incidents in the past month in which the same two pit bull terriers attacked other dogs in the neighborhood, killing one of them. Police Chief William Sombo said the dogs were placed in a two-week quarantine, but were returned to their owner as required by law.
“The second incident was purely an accident. They were on a leash but pulled away,” Sombo said. “The law says he’s supposed to have them under control and on a lead. He has due process. It’s in the magistrate’s hands. If deemed dangerous dogs, he’ll have to remove them.”
Sombo said he hasn’t been notified of a hearing date yet.
“The proper process has been started,” Sombo said.
According to Sombo, four separate citations have been issued utilizing both the borough dog ordinance and the state dog laws.
