California Borough Council went on record Thursday officially opposing the state integration plan that would combine California University of Pennsylvania with Clarion and Edinboro universities.
Council President Patsy Alfano presented a resolution opposing the integration plan.
“I’m sure the public is very aware of the proposed merger of universities, three on each side of the state,” Alfano said. “From what we’ve been able to deduct, there has been a lack of planning on the Board of Governors’ part.”
He then read the resolution, which notes that Cal U is the largest employer in the borough and a major employer in the region.
“(T)he proposed restructuring plan will have the effect of transferring resources from California University of Pennsylvania to its less effectively managed, struggling sister institution,” Alfano read.
