McKeesport Area is gearing up for the end of the school year, and district leaders are elated to host year-end activities that were canceled or altered last year due to the pandemic.
Superintendent Dr. Mark Holtzman and school board President Joe Lopretto at Wednesday’s board meeting talked about events such as graduation, prom and promenade, D.A.R.E (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program graduation, senior recognition events and arts programming.
And to do their part to join in the fight against COVID-19, the district will collaborate with Giant Eagle to host a vaccination clinic for current students, ages 16 and over.
Students who want the vaccine and have consent from a parent or guardian will get the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine at the high school from 1 to 3 p.m. May 3. The second dose will be given from 1 to 3 p.m. May 24.
Parents or guardians must complete a contact/consent form, which can be found at https://forms.gle/2KqmoGhXJS5wr4VW6. Links to the form, which is submitted electronically, can also be found on the McKeesport Area School District Facebook page and at www.mckasd.net under the “News and Info” section.
During the board president’s report, Lopretto, a retired police officer, asked board members to try and make time to attend the D.A.R.E graduation ceremony May 21 at the high school/Founders’ Hall Middle School campus.
“This is the 25th year for D.A.R.E (at MASD), which I started, and I’m going to pat myself on the back for that because I think it’s a great program, and Officer (Ken) Wehrli still has it going on for me and I thank him for that.”
Holtzman talked about other year-end events.
