With a safety and beautification project wrapping up, the Charleroi Area School District campus is looking more like a university.
The project, which has been talked about for several years, started in October when the entrances and high-traffic areas of the elementary center, middle school, high school and the administration building had vibrant vinyl wraps installed.
The first phase, which cost about $9,000, was paid for through a Safe Schools Grant from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.
The second phase, which consisted of the administration building, main gym, auxiliary gym and auditorium, cost about $30,000 and was sponsored by an outside company currently completing renovation work within the district.
Board members, teachers and other stakeholders had a voice in the design of the vinyl before it was installed.
“For the auditorium specifically, our music, theater and art teachers had a very clear vision of what they wanted that space to look like,” Superintendent Dr. Ed Zelich said. “They spent the winter months going back and forth with drawings to make sure it was just right. So, it was nice for so many people to have a voice in this project and see their visions brought to life.”
