COVID-19 rates continue to rise

New COVID-19 cases continue to trend upward in Pennsylvania now that the state has crossed the 1 million cases mark.
The state has reported 7,178 new cases since Friday for a new total of 1,012,345. There have also been eight new fatalities reported, and that total crossed its own milestone for a new total of 25,001.
Allegheny County reported an increase of 711 since Friday, when the county’s new case total of 586 was the highest its been since January.
In Allegheny County, there have been 84,522 cases and 1,801 deaths. There have been four reported fatalities since Friday.
Fayette County has had 35 new cases since Friday for a new total of 11,108, and no additional deaths. That total remains at 285.
Washington County reported 91 new cases since Friday for a new total of 14,876, and one fatality for a total of 274.
Westmoreland County has added 156 new COVID patients since Friday for a new total of 28,816 and one new fatality for a new total of 703.
Along with the increases in total patients across the state, the number of those hospitalized has steadily risen.
There are 1,856 COVID patients hospitalized statewide, an increase of 225 over the last week. Of those, 366 are in an ICU, an increase of 25, and 203 are on ventilators, an increase of 18.
There are 22% of ICU beds available statewide.
