Dores shoot down Bearcats

The Frazier boys basketball team used hot outside shooting early and a focus on defense late to roll past Bentworth Friday, 64-31, in Section 4-2A.
The Commodores (12-3, 7-1) made 12 3-pointers on the night led by Luke Santo and Owen Newcomer who each hit four. Santo led all scorers with 16 points, Newcomer had 14 and Colton Arison added 12.
Frazier jumped out to a 12-0 lead to open the game and never looked back. It was the second in a home-and-home with the Bearcats (1-9, 0-6) and a much different game than Tuesday night.
“Tuesday – even though it was a victory – left a sour taste in our mouth. We didn’t really play that well. We didn’t do the things we wanted to do and we didn’t execute,” Commodores coach Zach Keefer said. “We had a chip on our shoulder coming into tonight and we just wanted to get back to doing what we do best. Our three-ball game is a part of that, knocking down those shots were huge.”
Bentworth was without leading scorer Jerzy Timlin and it showed early as the Bearcats offense struggled to score and could not keep up with the Frazier 3-point barrage. The inexperience showed as senior-laden Frazier took advantage of Timlin’s absence.
“I remember a couple years ago when (Frazier) had the young guys on the floor. When you have a team like that, with their experience, it is difficult,” Bentworth coach Bob Kennedy said. “We know Santo and Newcomer can shoot, so you do the best you can.”
