Defense makes the difference as Hounds top Carmichaels

No matter if it’s the fourth game of the season or the first or even the final game, Monessen will always rely on its defense.
Offense can come and go on any night, but the Greyhounds throughout the years have leaned on a relentless defensive effort that includes being physical, battling for loose balls and controlling the tempo.
On Friday, Monessen overcame a cold shooting night and flexed its defensive muscle in a 49-36 triumph over Carmichaels on the road to remain unbeaten in Section 4-2A action.
“We came out a little flat to start the game with no energy on our press,” Monessen coach Dan Bosnic said. “Our defense stiffened as the game went on and our kids showed a lot of hustle on that end of the court. When your shots are not falling, you have to depend on your defense and your hustle.”
Kiantae Robinson garnered 10 of his team-high 16 points in the opening quarter, while Kody Kuhns (12) and Chas Mrlack (eight) also aided the offense for the Greyhounds (3-1, 3-0).
“On offense, it’s all about being unselfish and moving the ball around,” Bosnic said. “Sure, it wasn’t the best night for us (on offense), but I liked the things we did in the half-court. Like most teams to start the season, we have our limitations on offense, but it’s about pushing through that and dictating what you can on offense.”
