December might not seem to be the best time to head to the river, but the winter season for rowing will soon start in the Mon Valley.
While it’s a bit too cold to hit the water, the next few months will serve as intense preparation for the Mon Valley Rowing Club’s spring race season.
The club will have an open house from 10 a.m. to noon today at the boat house in lower Belle Vernon.
Guests will be able to chat with coach Brandon Tucker, meet members of the MVRC board, talk to teammates and try out the rowing machines.
Tucker said the winter season will run through March when water temperatures begin to rise.
“My time with the Mon Valley Rowing Club this year has been great,” Tucker said. “The board, the athletes and the community really want to see this organization grow, flourish and bring life to the Mon Valley.
“I am really looking forward to attending our first regatta in 2021 so they can see all of their hard work pay off.”
