Fighting dominates Monessen meeting

Monessen City Council was once again the scene of several arguments Tuesday night.
While the disagreements danced around several financial issues initially, eventually they devolved into the reasons why council continues to fight and why its members will likely never stop.
Resident Ron Mozer spoke during the citizens’ comment portion at the beginning of the meeting. He asked about the increased numbers in the major city funds from 2019 to 2020 that have been touted by city Administrator John Harhai and Mayor Matt Shorraw at the last few meetings and in a newsletter sent to all residents.
Mozer asked what council attributes those increases to and Councilman Don Gregor said, “Fiscal responsibility.”
Mozer replied that the phrase was just a buzz word and he was looking for actual information about what was different from 2019 to 2020.
“Financially managing your money and being fiscally responsible is a buzz word?” Gregor asked. “Perhaps we have a city administrator who knows what he’s doing.”
