After suffering its first section loss in nearly three seasons, the Charleroi boys soccer team responded in a big way by blowing out visiting Brownsville, 14-1, at Myron Pottios Stadium Wednesday.
The win gives the Cougars at least a share of the Section 3-2A crown. Charleroi (13-1, 11-1) will have to wait until at least Tuesday to see if it will take the section outright as Mt. Pleasant’s game against Southmoreland was postponed due to COVID-19 concerns. The game is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday.
“Today definitely showed that the guys can come back from a loss,” Cougars head coach Jon Ducoli said. “They were focused at the training last night, you could hear a pin drop in the locker room. They were not letting this one slip away from them.”
Junior Eben McIntyre set a Charleroi school record by scoring seven goals. He now has 38 on the season and 92 for his career. His younger brother Arlo McIntyre also got in on the rout, scoring twice. Dom Yocolano also had a pair of goals, while Sam Iacovangelo had seven assists and a goal.
