When the Thomas Jefferson boys basketball team takes the court for tonight’s WPIAL Class 5A semifinal against Laurel Highlands, it will do so with one goal in mind: To earn an opportunity to play for WPIAL gold.
“Anything else for us is a failure,” Thomas Jefferson head coach Dom DeCicco said. “That is just our mindset. Laurel Highlands is a great team that is very talented, but we have one thing we’re focused on right now. Each game is a different challenge and this is a big challenge.”
The fourth-seeded Jaguars (16-7) will have an opportunity to advance to the WPIAL championship game when it faces off with the eighth-seeded Mustangs (15-8) at 6:15 p.m. at Woodland Hills High School.
TJ, which defeated No. 12 West Allegheny in the quarterfinals on Friday, is appearing in the semifinals for the fifth time in program history and first time since 2014. The team is in search of its first WPIAL title game appearance since 1988.
