At halftime of Tuesday’s WPIAL Class A first-round game, Clairton’s Iyauna Chapman practiced some layups.
With each attempt, a Clairton player pushed her in the back, but Chapman still found a way to make every shot.
That layup practice was emblematic of Chapman’s performance as she posted a double-double and helped lead No. 4 Clairton past No. 13 Eden Christian, 61-58, at Northgate High School.
Chapman finished with 24 points and 13 rebounds for Clairton (19-3), which advances to play No. 12 California in the Class A quarterfinals on Friday.
“I think this is what we’ve been waiting for,” Chapman said. “We put our blood, sweat and tears on the court, every time we get on the court. It’s a great opportunity, and we got the job done.”
