Symphonic wind ensemble students at Elizabeth Forward High School have been learning that even professionals need to practice the fundamentals.
The students have been working for the past three months with two musicians from the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra as part of a community outreach educational program.
James Nova, trombonist, and Victoria Luperi, the associate principal clarinet, worked with wind ensemble students over the past three months, performing for the students, discussing their work and offering practice tips and training techniques to the students at no cost to the district.
High school music teacher Steve Spang said he became aware of the program through the Pittsburgh Symphony’s Education and Community Engagement office.
“I used to be in the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony, so I had some contacts there, but I just got an email about the program and I applied,” Spang said.
