Charleroi Theatre Boosters students are well on their way to bringing the “Jungle of Nool” to life, thanks to a few hundred pairs of old shoes.
For the past few months, students collected shoes to raise money for the spring production, “Seussical the Musical.” “Seussical” brings well-known characters like Horton the Elephant and the Cat in the Hat to life onstage and transports audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus.
The first-time fundraiser was a success as they collected 1,250 pairs of shoes between Sept. 13 and Dec. 1.
The theatre boosters earned money based on the total weight of the shoes they collected through Funds2Orgs.
Funds2Orgs works with micro-entrepreneurs in helping them create, maintain and grow small businesses in developing countries where economic opportunity and jobs are limited.
Proceeds from the sales of the shoes collected in shoe drive fundraisers are used to feed, clothe and house families.
