Charleroi still dealing with gasoline odor

By Mon Valley Independent

An odor of gas has returned in Charleroi, and Charleroi Volunteer Fire Department Chief Robert Whiten Jr. said his crew has exhausted all options and resources to help.

The problem began three weeks ago when residents on McKean and Prospect avenues and First Street began reporting a smell of gasoline inside their homes.

The issue started Oct. 18 and continued for the next few days as firefighters and borough street crew workers tried to find the source of the problem.

Workers were joined by the state Department of Environmental Protection two days later to control the gas leak, which was traced to an overflow of gasoline at an area station.
