Eagles upset S.S. Beaver

Tenth-seeded Serra Catholic picked up an upset win by edging No. 7 South Side Beaver, 1-0, in the first round of the WPIAL Class A playoffs Monday night at West Allegheny.
The playoff victory is the Eagles’ first since 2010.
Maddie Carr netted the game’s only goal in the second half, while Serra Catholic (10-7) goalkeeper Julianna Marshall made nine saves to earn the shutout.
“My girls played really well. They had a great defense and keeper, so we really had to work hard offensively,” Serra Catholic head coach Ashley Dorn said. “We worked as a unit and I’m proud of them.”
