Eicher leads Commodores over Scotties

At the beginning of the season, one of the Frazier volleyball team’s goals was to not drop a set in section play. That goal was dashed Tuesday, as Southmoreland won the third set of the Section 3-2A matchup, 25-21. But the Commodores took the first two sets and came back to win the fourth to clinch a 3-1 victory.
The Scotties, meanwhile, had an early season goal to win at least one set against the Commodores this season.

“That was a goal just in itself,” Southmoreland coach Kristy Bunner said of earning the third-set win. “They made that dream come true.”

Overall, Bunner said, the Scotties still need to work on a few things.

“They did not respond quickly,” she said. “Whenever we located areas we knew we could capitalize on, we were still trying to hammer at the ball.”

Someone else hammering at the ball – to her team’s advantage – was Frazier’s Skye Eicher, who led the Commodores (8-1, 6-0) with 36 kills.

“Skye is amazing. I can’t say enough about Skye. She’s a very special player, a once-in-a-lifetime player,” Frazier coach Mandy Hartman said. “She carries the team on her back. So, I challenged everyone before that fourth set. I said, ‘Somebody else has to win points except for Skye.’ I thought Sierra Twigg did a good job in that fourth set. She stepped up.”
