The Monongahela Area Historical Society is officially the owner of the Longwell House.
The society announced in May that it would be purchasing the home, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, and moved its offices and museum to the site this summer.
For the last several months, the society has been a tenant of the home, which it has been restoring to its former glory in hopes of becoming the welcome center for the city.
Society president Laura Magone said she received news of the closing on Thursday.
“We could not be more excited,” she said. “We have been tenants here and although the sales agreement has been in place, we could not focus on the closing of the home until we got through our 250th anniversary.
“Now that successful and very memorable event is behind us and we are now celebrating this new great day.”
