As Cathedral Prep came to town for an out-of-conference matchup against McKeesport, the Tigers were offered a bit of a litmus test to see just how good they were three games into the season.
As it turns out, the Tigers aren’t quite where they want to be. The reigning 4A state champions from Erie took down McKeesport, 33-14, posting a 20-0 second half to hand the Tigers their first loss of the season.
“We took a little step backwards today, but it’s a long season ahead,” McKeesport coach Matt Miller said. “We can’t sit here and lick our wounds too long.”
A game that seemed primed for a battle given the Tigers’ 14-13 lead at halftime turned into a methodical bludgeoning in the final two quarters. The Ramblers gashed McKeesport repeatedly through the air and on the ground, and the Tigers didn’t help their cause either, frequently committing penalties.
