A West Mifflin man is behind bars after allegedly crashing a vehicle into a utility pole, causing it to fall over and strike a pedestrian.
McKeesport police officer Bryan Morris described the incident as a hit and run in an affidavit of probable cause, writing that Asyhon Smith, 20, of B Drive, struck the pole and kept driving.
A McKeesport police officer was patrolling in the 500 block of Fifth Avenue around 12:43 a.m. Tuesday when he noticed a female, later identified as Elise Robins, on the ground.
According to the affidavit, Robins told Morris that she was walking to a local store when she heard a loud noise and was struck by the utility pole. A friend, Vincent Walker was hit in the ankle by debris that came off the pole as it was falling. Walker’s bicycle was also damaged by falling debris.
