The McKeesport Regional History & Heritage Center’s board is on a mission to help spread the word that there is a possibility of bringing life back to the historic Penn-McKee hotel.

Mayor Michael Cherepko’s office has been working with the McKees Point Development Group and the Pittsburgh-based Young Preservationists Association to figure out if the building can not only be reopened as a boutique hotel with restaurant and retail space, but if bringing activity back to it can also provide a jump start to revamping the block that surrounds the hotel.

On Saturday, the Center’s board will dedicate the June Speaker Series presentation to talking about the Penn-McKee, and its members are urging McKeesport and Mon Valley residents to attend.

The program, called “The Past, Present and Future of The Penn-McKee Hotel,” will be held at 1 p.m. at the Center, located at 1832 Arboretum Drive in Renziehausen Park. Tickets cost $2 for those who aren’t members of the museum.
