The race for Monessen magistrate continues as two candidates are moving on to the general election.
According to unofficial results from the Westmoreland County Elections Bureau, Monessen City Controller Wayne Vlasic will appear on the Democratic ballot, having secured 674, or about 44% of the party’s votes in Tuesday’s primary.
“I’m very relieved, glad and humbled, but not necessarily in that order,” Vlasic said with a laugh while celebrating with friends and family at St. Spyridon’s Hellenic Center in Monessen. “It feels great. I had a lot of really great support from a lot of good people, and I can’t thank them enough.”
Monessen police Chief Jim Smith secured the Republican nomination, receiving 152, or just over 43%, of the GOP’s nods.
