BVA uses 16 hits to topple Colonials

Belle Vernon Area scored early and often in a convincing 17-7 nonsection victory over Class 5A Albert Gallatin Saturday afternoon at the John DiVirgilio Sports Complex in Rostraver Township.
The Leopards (11-7), who are seeded No. 11 in the upcoming WPIAL Class 4A playoffs, used 16 hits to roll past the Colonials (8-11) in preparation for their first round matchup against No. 6 Beaver at Fox Chapel on Wednesday.
Josh Hoffman, a Youngstown State recruit, led the way offensively for BVA, finishing with a 5 for 5 afternoon. Hoffman collected a pair of doubles and drove in a game-high four runs.
Andrew Sokol added a three-hit effort while driving in two runs. Garrett Greco and Nicholas Stanger each had two hits. Max Gauden and Ryan McGrew doubled and drove in two runs.
