Serra Catholic’s Mark Black set a new single-season program record with his ninth home run of the season and Nico Eremic hit his second homer in as many days to lead the Eagles to a 10-0 win over Riverview in a five-inning Section 3-2A contest Thursday afternoon.
“Things have been coming along with the warmer weather,” Serra Catholic head coach Brian Dzurenda said. “The ball was really exploding off the bats in pregame warmups when we were taking batting practice. The kids are improving each and every day because they’re a young group. We’re kind of a storm that is gathering momentum as the season goes on.”
Black, a St. John’s commit, has been at the eye of that storm all season long, leading the first-place Eagles (15-2, 8-1) in nearly every offensive category.
His WPIAL-leading ninth homer, a solo shot to left field in the fourth inning, gave him the record for most home runs in a single season by a Serra Catholic player.
