Belle Vernon Area left seven runners on base and had the tying run on in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Leopards were unable to plate a run and fell to visiting South Park, 1-0, in a Section 3-4A matchup at the John DiVirgilio Complex Friday night.
The Leopards’ Cole Naylor and the Eagles’ Breden Gray went blow for blow on the mound, but it was South Park pulling out the win late.
Zach Lemansky singled to right and was replaced by courtesy runner Josh Undereiner. He was sacrificed to second on a bunt by Tyler Corcoran before David Monaco ripped a two-out single to left field to score the game’s only run.
Gray picked up the win, throwing 6 1/3 innings and allowing seven hits. He struck out nine.
