Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County’s McKeesport Filtration Plant is being recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency for producing consistently high-quality water.

The company announced Friday that its McKeesport Filtration Plant and its Indian Creek Supply Filtration Plant, which is near Connellsville, are both receiving recognition.

The plants will receive the EPA Area Wide Optimization Program award in recognition of outstanding efforts toward optimizing filter plant performance.

AWOP is a multi-state effort in which states work together to develop and implement individual state programs to optimize particle removal and disinfection capabilities of conventional surface water treatment plants. AWOP is designed to assist in making water systems work toward optimizing their existing treatment processes in an effort to increase public health protection.
