In a battle between two of the best defenses in Class 2A, Brentwood held Serra Catholic to single digits in three of the four quarters of a lopsided 62-33 win in Section 2-2A action Tuesday night.
The only bright side for Serra Catholic head coach Bill Cleary, whose team endure its first section loss of the season, was being able to use all 12 of his players.
“(When the game got out of hand) I wanted to play them all,” he said. “I wanted to get them out there, see what they can do. I think what made me most happy is the fact that all 12 kids got to get in and play some substantial minutes.”
After being shut down the entire game, Serra Catholic (11-4, 6-1) showed some life in the final quarter with 13 points, including a 5 for 9 effort from the free throw line.
However, Brentwood (12-3, 7-1) had built up a 47-20 lead.
